This game isn't anything to brag about because of how weak my opponent was. It is here for the benefit of beginners who want to know how not to play against decent opponents.

Mike Serovey Defeats ThreeofSeven Again

Here is an ICC correspondence chess game that I just finished. This is my second win against ThreeofSeven (AKA Dave from Castle Rock, CO). I still have one more game against Dave going and I am winning that one too. This win put my ICC correspondence chess rating over 1600 (1611), which was one of my chess goals for this year. It also gives me a plus score in ICC correspondence chess for the very first time!

Mike Serovey Defeats Sean McKinney

This is the last of my correspondence chess games played at ICC. It was this game, and 3 others like it, that caused me to decide not to play anymore correspondence chess games at ICC. This is the fourth game that I should have won on time forfeit and the fourth time that my opponent got off with just a warning and extra time to play the game! I believe that is cheating and I am not going to put up with it anymore! My opponent's rating at the start of this game was 1590 and it dropped to 1541 by the end of this game. Mine went up to 1595, only 6 rating points away from reaching my goal of going over 1600 rating points! I need one more win and no losses to reach my goal. However, if I continue to play correspondence chess games at ICC I am going to continue to have this problem of people getting away with cheating!

I got outplayed in the opening and went down the exchange and 2 pawns. Then a few moves later my opponent gave back the material. Then I blundered away 3 pawns only to have White return them in a sacrifice. I managed to win the endgame and White resigned. This game is one of the few times that I have won playing the Black side of the Réti. Mike Serovey Loses To Radek Laburda

Here is my game from Round 1 of the tornado played on 14 October 2007. This was my only loss in the tournament. My opponent was rated 2009 and was the second highest rated player in the tornado. So far I have lost every time that I have played an expert in OTB tournaments! I need to find a better strategy for playing the Black side of both the Réti and the Kings Indian Attack. Mike Serovey Draws Robert Franz

Here is Round 4 of the Tampa Chess Club Tornado that I played on 14 October 2007. This game ended in a draw after a wild time scramble. See my previous post to see how I did in each round of this tournament. The opening is a Réti (ECO A04). I don't like playing the Black side of the Réti or the English and I faced both in this tournament. In this game I decided to play the Botvinnik system a tempo down. I got outplayed in the middle game but was able to come back in the time scramble.
